Recording troubleshooting
Why your golf swing video is hard to analyze
Troubleshoot golf swing recording problems, including a cut-off club, dark footage, shaky video, and camera angles that make comparisons misleading.

The short answer
Before changing your swing, check the recording. Give a cut-off club more room, adjust the setup if you look dark, and secure the stand if the picture shakes. When comparing clips, check the camera position first. A new angle can look like a change in your swing.
Find the recording problem
A video can play without errors and still hide the movement you need to see. Check that the whole swing is in frame, your body is visible, and the phone stays still.
| What you see | What to check | What to try next |
|---|---|---|
| Club or hands leave the frame | Space above and beside the golfer | Reframe, then rehearse the whole swing in the preview. |
| Golfer looks dark | Bright light behind the body | Change the setup so the body is evenly lit. |
| Video shakes or tilts | Phone stand and surface | Secure the phone on a stable surface before recording. |
| Movement is hidden | Bag, divider, or another golfer | Choose a clear view without obstructing another bay. |
| Two swings look different | Camera position, view, and club | Record again with the same setup before comparing. |
The club disappears at the top or finish
Framing only the golfer at address leaves too little space for the club later in the swing. A tight crop may look tidy while hiding the moment you want to review.
Leave room around the whole movement. Reposition the phone, make a slow rehearsal, and check the top and finish before hitting a ball. If the bay is too narrow to get a safe, complete view, use another permitted recording position. Avoid putting the stand in a neighbouring golfer’s space.
The golfer is dark or the movement is unclear
If you can see the sky clearly but your arms and torso are dark, check for backlighting. Move the setup so the golfer is easier to see, while keeping the camera view your app requires. Clean the lens if the whole picture looks hazy.
For blurred movement, first check the light and whether the phone itself moved. Use the app’s supported recording settings and review another test clip. Avoid assuming a different frame rate will solve the problem; settings, available light, and device capabilities all affect the result.
The camera moves during the swing
If the phone moves during the swing, the view changes too. You may see movement in the picture without knowing whether it came from your body or the camera.
Secure the phone before stepping into position. Check that the clamp holds it and the stand stays still when you walk nearby. Record and replay one test swing. If the horizon shifts or the frame tilts, correct the stand before filming more clips.
The camera angle changed between clips
A clip taken from higher up, farther to one side, or with a tighter crop can make posture and movement look different. Comparing a face-on clip with a down-the-line clip also mixes two perspectives.
Use the same view, phone position, framing, and club for the next comparison. Match the same moment in each swing. If the setups differ, review each clip on its own and record a more consistent pair before judging the change.
The AI feedback does not match what you expected
Watch the original clip and check the app’s view instructions. Is any movement missing or hidden? Was the camera in the requested position? Poor footage can affect a review, though it will not explain every unexpected suggestion.
In Teeo, use clip review to inspect the movement and consider the feedback alongside your practice goal. If it conflicts with your coach’s instructions, discuss the clip with them before changing several things at once. For a persistent recording or review problem, contact Teeo with a description of your device, recording view, and what happened.
Check the next clip
- Fix the most visible recording problem first.
- Record one new swing using the app’s view guidance.
- Replay the whole clip and check the body, club, and camera stability.
- Keep that setup for the session if the clip is clear.
- Use a separate practice focus once the recording is useful.
Common questions
Does a clearer video guarantee accurate AI feedback?
No. A clear recording gives you more useful footage to review, but AI feedback still needs judgment and context. Use it alongside your goals and your coach’s advice.
Can I repair a clip where the club is out of frame?
You can still review the visible parts, but cropping or slowing playback cannot recover movement that was never captured. Reframe and record another clip if you need that part of the swing.
